Cherry Anthocyanins

The anthocyanins are responsible for giving the tart cherries its deep, rich color. This naturally occurring compound belongs to a group of phenolic compounds called flavonoids. Of the 150 different flavonoids found in plants, anthocyanins appear to have the greatest antioxidant capacity (Elliott 1992). This is good news for tart cherry lovers. Not only does the cherry have naturally occurring anthocyanins, but also a whole host of other powerful compounds including melatonin and vitamin A, C and E
