Did you know that tart cherries are a good source of phenolic compounds, such as gallic acid, p-coumaric acid and quercetin. All of these are well-known and potent antioxidants. Researchers at the University of California stated in published research that ellagic acid (EA) is a potent antioxidant (Seeram 2004). In fact, one study revealed that EA in fruit extracts assisted with maintaining a healthy body (Ross 2007). In addition to the fresh fruit, consider adding some cherry juice to your daily diet.
