Dried Cherry Recipe for Turkey - Thanksgiving

Chef’s Note

This recipe was born one Thanksgiving morning in our Traverse Bay Farms kitchen when we wanted a lighter, fruit-forward side to replace heavy sauces. The aroma of warm cherries and thyme instantly felt festive. We tested it alongside roast turkey — and it became a staff favorite. The addition of Traverse Bay Farms Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate brightens every bite, giving this relish its signature balance of tang and sweetness.

Prep & Yield

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes

  • Chill Time: 3–4 hours

  • Yield: 1½ cups

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Traverse Bay Farms Dried Tart Cherries

  • ½ cup cherry preserves

  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar

  • ½ cup chopped red onion

  • ¼ cup chopped yellow bell pepper

  • ¼ cup chopped green bell pepper

  • ½ tbsp Traverse Bay Farms Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate

  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme, finely chopped (or ½ tsp dried thyme)

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine Traverse Bay Farms Dried Tart Cherries, cherry preserves, Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate, and vinegar.

  2. Microwave on high for 1–1½ minutes, or until hot.

  3. Let stand for 5 minutes to soften the cherries.

  4. Stir in red onion, yellow and green bell peppers, and thyme. Mix well.

  5. Cover and refrigerate for 3–4 hours or overnight to allow flavors to blend.

  6. Serve chilled or at room temperature with roasted turkey, chicken, or grilled meats.

Chef’s Tips & Variations

  • Add a dash of cracked black pepper for extra spice.

  • For a thicker texture, mix in 1 tbsp finely chopped Traverse Bay Farms Dried Cherries just before serving.
